FAOC, The Federación de Asociaciones de Orihuela Costa, met on Friday afternoon at their Headquarters in Campoamor.

There were about 20 people at the meeting, many of them representing other like minded organisations, all of which are working toward achieving a better coastline as they attempt to put united pressure on the Orihuela Government to improve the services and facilities in aznd around the Orihuela Costa.

Those that did attend included members of the Cabo Roig Clean Up Volunteer Group, a Neighbourhood Association that concentrates its efforts in Cabo Roig and La Regia (John Critcher), Urbanisation  Las Filipanas (Francisco Morales), Villamartín (Óscar Garrido), Orihuela Costa Golf (Alfonso Parra), Altos del Pinar (Carmen Ruiz), Glea Beach (Lola Henarejos),  La Florida (José Manuel González), as well as the managing body of FAOC. In all there were more than 14 areas and urbanizations of the Orihuela Costa represented.

Much of the meeting was spent discussing the shortcomings of the current Orihuela Government although it was agreed that there has been some improvement since the group began its activities.

It was felt that the relationship that exists with local councillors is very good but those in power on the coast dont have the necessary budgets or powers to make the improvements and the changes that are needed.

FAOC and its members will therefore continue to apply pressure where it can in the hope that additional finance can be found to provide an improvement to services.

Also discussed were the fiestas, celebrations and cultural events that FAOC would like to bring to the coast, the list of which is to be discussed with the authorities. They include:

  1. MOORS AND CHRISTIANS ON THE COAST: to extend this feast to the coast, introducing a parade similar to the one that has been taking place in Madrid, at FITUR, over the last two years.
  2. SAINT PATRICK’S DAY: taking advantage of the large number of people of foreign nationality who celebrate this day, we request municipal support for this festival, improving and reinforcing its content, perhaps with a music festival. Today, it is organized under the exclusive sponsorship of the bars and restaurants around Aguamarina.
