England u17 and Stoke City u18 goalkeeper Nathan Broome had a net gain – when making his England u17 debut against Hungary at the Pinatar Arena, Murcia, in February.
Broome, who returned to Spain in June, when visiting his grandparents on the Costa Blanca, spent time fishing at El Paraiso fishing lake in Guardamar, Alicante (pictured in The Leader).
Manchester City prodigy Broome, who moved to Stoke on a free transfer in 2018, was included in England u17s manager Steve Cooper’s training squad for the u17s European Championships in May.
“It was the first opportunity for our players to be involved in a major tournament.
“One that has proved to be a vital milestone event for players and their development for the future,” said Cooper.
Broome made his Stoke u23 debut against Newcastle United u23 in April, and u23 manager Kevin Russell said: “Nathan is very young and is getting a good learning experience.
“Some of the young players are up and around the first team squad, which is where you want them to be.”
Former England u18 Russell, 52, who made 456 career appearances, playing for many clubs including Brighton, Leicester, Stoke, Burnley and Bournemouth, said: “Young players need to keep their feet on the floor.
“The focus is to work hard – learning the game – with patience. And hopefully they’ll get their rewards.”
First year Scholar Broome, who made his u18 Stoke debut in August, following his release by Manchester City in February 2018, played in The Potters u23 Premier League 2 in the 2018-19 season.
Broome has also featured for Stoke City in the Amtzeller Pfingstturnier tournament in Germany.
