The Plaza Golf Society convened at our home course Villamartin in ideal conditions with 43 players.
One in particular didn’t take advantage of the conditions and heading off to practice was Colin Fearnley having scored a lowly 15pts…..better luck next time Colin!
The 2’s pot threw up multiple successes so in no particular order the 8 winners were, Russell Bailey, Chris Baker, Christian Attwood, James Freeman, Ian Bishop, Kevin Lance, Russell Bond and Brian Fenty.
Best lady on the day was the very consistent Liz Sully who off her newly revised handicap of 12 still achieved a creditable 30 pts.
Our Guest category contained 2 professional golfers who didn’t disappoint, both willingly shared their experience and talent with our members which is great to see. Pearse McMurrey from Vistabella playing off scratch came 3rd scoring 31 pts, 2nd was Kevin Lance handicap 7 with 33 pts but 1st was our visiting Pro from Retford GC James Freeman, who shot a gross 65 playing off plus 4 resulting in an fantastic 39 pts, and the top score of the day.
Onto our own categories and Silver saw Brian Fenty 3rd with 30pts off 24, the irrepressible Tony Food 2nd with 31 pts off 17 and leading the way was Russell Bond with an excellent 36 pts off 19.
Gold saw some regular podium winners with 3 players all recording 34 pts so it all went to countback. Gareth Davies 3rd off 10, Russell Bailey 2nd off 11 but pipping both of these was course specialist Paul Thelwell off 13…..well done to them.
