After another delayed start due to frost on the course, we started our week with a ‘Bowmaker’, that is the three best scores out of four to count on each hole. Our winners, with an excellent 110 points, were Peter Wickham, Mike Mahony, Joyce McClusky and the fictional Albert. Peter scoring 4 points on each of two holes certainly helped their cause!
Without naming names (but he teaches art when not playing golf), a member of my team reminded me of a quote by a certain Henry Beard who said, ‘Duffers who consistently shank their balls are urged to buy and study Shanks – No thanks by R.K.Hoffman, or in extreme cases, M.S.Howard’s excellent Tennis for Beginners’.
Onto Wednesday’s Stableford competition; this time with a difference. Each player could nominate beforehand two holes where the points scored were doubled. Our leader of the pack, with 43 points, was John Drakesmith. He was followed with 42 by Joyce McClusky and Annemarie Weisheit took the bronze with 41 points.
Friday’s ‘Texas Scramble’ welcomed a new member to ‘the hole in one club’ with Ellen Drakesmith getting an ace on the 14th (her first ever)! With a clear five point lead and a nett score of 60.75, our winners were Terry Field, Mike Mahony and guess who (me).
Por ultimo, ‘A gimme can best be defined as an agreement between two golfers, neither of whom can putt very well.’
Pues, hasta la semana que viene
