The Civil Guard is investigating the circumstances of the death of a pedestrian who was allegedly hit in the early hours of the morning by several vehicles on the N-332 road passing through Orihuela Costa.
The incident took place at quarter past three in the morning at kilometre 48 of the N-332 just beyond the Skala club, in the direction of Mil Palmeras.
Even 72 hour after the incident the circumstances are still confused, with the victim yet to be identified. It is thought that the victim was being accompanied by two other men at the time of his death and that he was hit by a number of different vehicles, but whether the death was as a result of a tragic accident or the setline of gangland scores is still a source of conjecture.
One line of investigation is that the victim was an Irish citizen who was previously in a nearby pub which he left with two other people. The pub in question is not far from the location of the accident and according to the testimonies gathered by the Civil Guard the person could have been a man of Irish origin who was in a drunken state when he left the bar at 3am.
The Civil Guard is still trying to locate the two people who accompanied him in order that he can be identified and to determine quite how the fatality occurred. They are also waiting for an autopsy to be carried out along with and an examination of his fingerprints.
