The Councilor for Emergencies, Víctor Valverde met with the new deputy general director of Emergencies of the Generalitat Valenciana, Mª Dolores González, on Tuesday who, together with the general director José María Batalla, is responsible for the project of the Orihuela Costa Emergency Centre currently half built in La Zenia.
Coincidentally the meeting took place on the day following a call by local political group CLARO, for a public protest to take place on Sunday 1 April, showing public disapproval at the 9 years of delay that the project has undergone.
A CLARO press release states that “This is one of the most scandalous examples of bad political management of the coast by the different governments of Orihuela Town Hall. Nine years have elapsed since the announcement of its construction. An astonishing delay that affects the security of a tax-paying population of about 40,000, increasing to more than 150.00 in peak tourists seasons.”
The meeting, for which Valverded travelled to Valencia, had the objective of both municipal and regional administrations in assessing the current progress made on the project where it was confirmed that the technical and administrative specifications for the tender have now been drawn up for the completion of the centre which is being financed by European PIP funds.
