Mojácar commemorated Andalucía Day with activities throughout the day, starting with the raising of the regional flag at noon in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento by the deputy mayor, Emmanuel Agüero, along with his Government Team and Socialist Councillors, to the sound of the anthem sung by the town’s Rociero Choir.
There was a big public turnout for this very institutional event, which was followed by the choir’s delightful performance of regional songs.
More than two hundred green and white balloons were then handed out to the children, before around five hundred people had a chance to sample the paella that had been prepared especially to celebrate the Autonomous Region’s Day. The party mood continued later in the afternoon with a performance by the town’s dance groups in the Centro de Usos Múltiples.
So ended a programme of events that is such a Mojácar tradition and one which attracts more people every year, including many from the foreign community, bringing lots of people together for this great celebratory day.
