CD Montesinos stopped the rot after a disastrous start to the 2016-17 season with a 6-1 win in a friendly fixture against Todo Deportivo.
“There is still a lot of work to be done”, Montesinos coach Carlos Perez told me after the game.
Carlos replaced newly appointed Camacho at the Los Montesinos, Alicante based club – just two games into the season after defeats against CD Benijofar and RC Orihuela.
Carlos has brought in new players including striker Aure who scored a bagful goals on his debut.
The Segunda Regional Grupo 16 club are confident that Carlos can instil confidence back into the squad: “It is a big boost to get a win. Things have changed, including the atmosphere. It bodes well,” committee President Eddie Cagigao told me.
The Vega Baja outfit are hoping that injury hit players including Vazquinho and Fernando will soon return to action.
“The return of Vazquinho and Fernando is important. They are key players, important to the team”, Carlos told me.
Carlos, thrown in at the deep end, after turmoil at the club, will take charge of his first league game this weekend, October 16, at home at The Municipal Stadium against CF Racing Playas de Orihuela A.
“We would like to improve as the season progresses. The player’s fitness is not 100% and it’s important to put that right”, said Carlos.
Carlos replaced former Orihuela CF coach Camacho, who arrived at Montesinos in the summer, after the departure of Roberto Cases who has joined UD Horadada.
