Following Saturday’s coronation ceremony of King Charles III held at Westminster Abbey, attended by the great and the good, including Ling Felipe Vl and Queen Leticia, the United Kingdom continued with festivities to mark the historic event on Sunday.
Thousands of parties took place across the country with Windsor Castle hosting 20,000 people in the castle grounds for the concert featuring international artists including Katy Perry, Take That, Lionel Richie and Andrea Bocelli. Tom Cruise and Joan Collins also had prominent roles, as did the popular Winnie the Pooh.
Members of the royal family were expected to take part in many of the of the events. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Edward and Sofia, attended a meal in Cranleigh, Surrey, while Princess Anne and her husband, Vice Admiral Tim Laurence, travelled to Swindon. Princesses Beatriz and Eugenia, daughters of Andrew, the King’s other brother, took part in the ‘Big Lunch’ at Windsor.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was another to join the festivities at a luncheon with guests including Ukrainian families and youth groups. It is estimated that around 50,000 lunches and street parties were held across the country.
On the Orihuela Costa it was more a case of a ‘gentile’ afternoon tea, on the coronation eve, with a group of former members of the RBL, taking to Cakes and Bakes in Los Dolses where they were spoiled rotten by the efficient staff, although they’re were a few pieces of the ‘coronation quiche’ that were left untouched. The toast to the King and Queen was delivered by Keith Franklyn, Chairman of Leytonstone Branch of the RBL, who was visiting from London.
Almost 100 euro was raised by the raffle which will be used to repair the recent damage caused by vandals to the RBL memorial in Mil Palmeras.
In Campoverde the Costa Blanca International Concert Band, played it’s first engagement, following the decision to leave the RBL, at a street party celebration of the Coronation organised by Danny’s Bar.
During the day, there was wall to wall TV coverage where those watching could enjoy some traditional British cuisine, hotdogs, sausage rolls etc.
We then moved onto the evenings celebrations, with the Costa Blanca International Concert Band – Last Night at the Proms – entertaining a packed audience from 7 until 9 with a great British Menu on offer.

Once the Band had finished, a short break and entertainment continued with Jim McMail doing a selection of Tom Jones, George Michael and many more favourites. A great night was had by all.
Min Sims had previously held a Ladies Dinner Night at Danny’s for the Campoverde Ex Old Seadogs and on the night raised €135.00. This together with another €188.00 from the King’s Coronation collection – Totals as €323.00 collected for the RBL.
