The Mojácar Civil Protection Volunteers Group has received recognition from the Junta de Andalucía for its invaluable contribution in the control of Covid-19 and its social commitment to the population.
On the occasion of the celebration of European 112 Day and the 20th anniversary of the foundation of the Almería Provincial Emergencies Centre, the Junta de Andalucía has distinguished with separate rewards the province’s Fire Extinction and Rescue Service and the Civil Protection Volunteers Group at an institutional act presided over by the Government Delegate Maribel Sánchez and the Mayor of Almería, Ramón Fernández, among other public figures, and held in Almería’s Villaespesa Library’s function room.
Ramón Fernández presented a plaque to the Mojácar Civil Protection Volunteers Group in the name of the whole city. A distinction, which in his words, “is well-deserved and justified.”
Francisco Jesús Cano, Mojácar Civil Protection volunteer, picked up the distinction on behalf of his colleagues, accompanied at all times by Francisco García Cerdá, Councillor Attached to the Mayor’s Office and Councillor for Finance, as well as by Pedro Torres, Councillor for Public Works and Services.
The Mojácar Civil Protection Volunteers Group is made up of 14 permanent staff and three vehicles equipped with first-aid and emergencies equipment, coordinated by Alberto Ordoñez Montoya and under the councillorship held by Ana García Fernández.
Its work during the most difficult months of the pandemic was truly essential and required a titanic effort, which only with their dedication and professionalism were they able to carry out with the efficiency which the tough circumstances demanded.
They were in charge of the personalised assistance provided to nearly 100 households in the most critical moments of contagions in the locality. This personalised assistance not only included doing the shopping in the supermarket, pharmacy and any other need, they also took care of waste disposal, the rubbish, delivery of masks, etc. which they did punctually a minimum of three times a week per property on a fixed basis, and dealing with any other emergency or incident outside this time, giving a prompt and satisfactory response to residents at all times.
The working days, mainly on these days, lasted, according to the day’s planning, until two in the morning.
Outside these critical moments their collaboration and presence is essential, both at cultural events – Moors and Christians festival, patron saint festivals, parades, etc – and at all the sports events with crowds of people.
In short, as a backbone of safety, calm and better management for public service in situations of collaboration among other operations.
