More than half of the births in Teulada, Torrevieja, Calp and Xàbia are by foreign mothers
A demographic change is becoming increasingly evident in the province, leaving a numerical relationship between births at a negative number of -4,765, lower than the figures of València, but three times worse than those registered in Castellón.
According to the data provided by the Valencian Institute of Statistics (IVE) in its latest analysis of the Natural Movement of the Population (MNP), corresponding to the year 2022, the number of births to foreign mothers has increased considerably at a general level, where, in four municipalities, Teulada, Torrevieja, Calp and Xàbia, births are higher than those to Spanish mothers.
In first position is Teulada-Moraira, where 41 babies have been born to foreign mothers and only 22 to Spanish mothers, while in second position is Torrevieja, where 325 children were born to foreign families and 233 were born to Spanish nationals.
Overall, the data shows that of the 13,262 babies born in the province of Alicante in the defined period, 3,897 belonged to foreign families, which represents 30% of the total. This means that nearly one in three births are carried out by non-Spanish mothers, data that is similar to Castellón but which is much higher than the province of València.
