Guardamar Local Police were caught out at the weekend, scratching their heads, as they scoured DGT (General Directorate of Traffic) rules and regulations looking for the section which might be applicable to a rather unusual e-scooter they intercepted being ridden through the streets of the town.
The officers stopped a member of the public who had adapted his scooter to pull along a pushchair containing his daughter.
“I never cease to be amazed by some of the things I see in our streets,” said one of the officers.
The e-scooter had a rigid bar affixed to the chassis of his daughter’s pram as he merrily rode along his way, containing the young girl, the daily shopping, and a protruding flower pot, behind.
As the officer explained, “vehicles cannot undergo reforms that alter their nature, and an electric scooter cannot have more than two wheels, nor be used by more than one person.”
Numerous accidents occur involving people riding Personal Mobility Vehicles (PMV), or in other words, electric scooters.
The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) and the different local police forces regularly remind us of the rules for the use of these vehicles in guaranteeing road safety, but we still see users who are capable of surprising us by their total disregard for the law, as was witness by the Local Police of Guardamar del Segura.
