A cyclist has been seriously injured in a traffic accident that occurred at the intersection of the Formentera del Segura urbanization with the CV-9032 and Daya Vieja.
According to the Emergency Coordination Centre of the Generalitat, the cyclist, a 67-year-old man of foreign origin, has been transported with multiple traumas in a medical helicopter to the Doctor Balmis Hospital in Alicante. Initially, a Basic Life Support ambulance had been sent to the scene of the accident to stabilise the injured person.
The accident occurred at about ten fifteen on Tuesday morning at the intersection known as “Patatas Beltrán” and involved a car and the cyclist.
The vehicle is thought to have run over the cyclist, although this remains to be confirmed. Several serious accidents have already occurred in recent months at the same point.
This is a secondary road widely used by the residents of San Fulgencio, Los Palacios (Formentera del Segura) and Rojales, for their short-distance transfers in order to avoid the CV 860 roundabout. It is also frequently used by the residents of the local urbanisation that either walk or use bicycles for short trips.
