Despite home advantage, Mare Nostrum Torrevieja Handball Club fell to defeat by a single point at the hands of Ritec Balonmano Águilas on Sundat in the match held at the “Tavi y Carmona” Sports Palace in the Salinera town.
The Murcians beat Francisco Vera’s team 25 – 24 in a game that saw their superiority in the final period of the match.
Although the home side got away to a ‘flyer’ taking a 5 – 2 lead after nine minutes of play, it wasn’t only the stadium lights that ‘went on the blink’ as the visitors fought back to take a 14-12 lead going into the interval.
A brief fightback saw Mare Nostrum regain parity directly after the break, but they fell behind once again, a position from which they never recovered, with the final score 24 – 25 and the points going back to Murcia. This defeat leaves the team in eighth position with 16 points.
This weekend Francisco Vera’s team travel to Elche to face AtticGo Balonmano Elche, who currently sit in fifth with twenty points.
The clash on matchday 20 will be held at the Esperanza Lag Pavilion in the Elche sports city starting at 7:00 p.m.
