Fire fighters were alerted to a bush fire adjacent to the N-332 in Torrevieja on Saturday, in an area close to the municipal cemetery.
As a result of the visibility problems caused by the smoke, and to allow fire crews to battle the blaze, the N-332 was closed to traffic by the Guardia Civil.
The blockage lasted for two hours and resulted in considerable queues and delays, although the fire was controlled.
