The Partido Popular (PP) candidate for the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, has committed to the construction of a tram linking the city of Elche with the Torrellano Business Park, with an investment of 195 million euro and a forecast of 45,000 daily travellers on a 35-minute journey that begins in the Carrús neighbourhood.
The promise is of course dependant on him winning the election for regional president and ousting the current PSOE head, Ximo Puig. However, during an appearance in Elche together with the PP candidate for mayor, Pablo Ruz, Mazón explained that this tram service will have a total of 20 stops and twelve convoys (ten in commercial service, one of reserve and another for maintenance).
The leader of the Valencia PP lamented that “until now no one in the Consell de (Ximo) Puig has cared about the mobility of the people of Elche as well as of the people who want to travel to Elche”, for which he believes in “a project that is committed to for sustainable and clean mobility”.
It has advanced that this initiative is designed, beyond this first phase, to integrate the connections with Crevillente, with the AVE train station to the west and “the imperious” union with the district of Torrellano, the airport and the city of Alicante.
He has denounced that “with Sánchez and Puig, Alicante is the province that receives the least investment of the 52 in Spain” against which is the “clear commitment” of the PP “for fast and frequent commutes, public transport that connects all the towns and cities and expands the metro network where there is one and the tram”.
“It is time to provide Elche with a railway network capable of developing the mobility that the people of Elche deserve,” Mazón stressed, explaining that the project will be launched from the Generalitat if the citizens give it their trust and that “will make the tram work in the next three, four years”.
