The Neighborhood Association of San Miguel Arcángel de San Miguel de Salinas has criticised the Integrated Action Plan (PAI) of the SUS-A Greenhouses, an urban procedure prior to the authorisation of 2,379 homes, adjacent to C/Sorozabel, the western ring road.
The allegations focus on the claim that a flood plan needs to be drawn up to alleviate the impact of the many tiny dry riverbeds that cross the sector and that caused enormous damage in September 2019 during DANA. They are also insisting on a bird protection plan, given that the sector is covered by the Sierra Escalona Special Protection Zone for Birds (ZEPA).
The Association explains that the ravine that crosses the sector is the ‘run off’ from the Rambla de la Escribana or Lo Quiles with a slope of 465 hectares to the Torrevieja lagoon. It starts on the east face of the Montes Alcores with slopes greater than 50% where this two-kilometre drop “causes some fast and “virulent” currents.
However, the promoter has assured the residents that the boulevard has been respected as a private channel and has been protected, because it is an important water channel in the municipality. The company does admit that the sector is affected by the risk of flooding, but that it is included for the area in the Territorial Plan against Flood Risk of the Generalitat (Patricova).
