The Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta, visited the Miguel Hernández House-Museum on Saturday afternoon where he was met by Carolina Gracia, mayoress of Orihuela, Araceli Poblador, sub-delegate of the government in Alicante, as well as municipal councillors.
His visit that began at the Puerta de la Olma, passing through Adolfo Clavarana street where Iceta was able to see the facade of the Santo Domingo Diocesan College before arriving at the Miguel Hernández House Museum where he signed both the visitors’ book and the Orihuela City Council’s Honors and Distinctions Book.
The Minister spoke of “the dedication of all those who preserve the memory of a universal poet who lived in this house where he forged his character and the soul of his work” as he recognised “the commitment of the Orihuela Council and all of its people with the preservation of its history and commitment to culture.
The deputy mayor presented the minister with a cutting of a fig tree from Miguel Hernández’s house and several copies of books and collections including a facsimile edition of ‘El Gallo Crisis’, ‘Miguel Hernández, 25 illustrated poems’, ‘Validity of Miguel Hernández 80 years later (1942-2022), a book about the painter Joaquín Agrasot and copies of poems written by many of Orihuela’s children, that won the International Poetry Award for Girls and Boys.
