The candidate on behalf of the Partido Popular in Torrevieja running for Mayor in the May elections, Eduardo Dolón, met with the representatives of 39 sports entities in the town to sign the second electoral contract to improve the sporting facilities.
Eduardo Dolón, who is of course the sitting Mayor, a post he also held from 2011 to 2015, and again since 2019, has now announced a wave of improvements if he is elected once again.
The electoral contract is reflected in these 19 points:
- Continue with the processing of the construction projects of different sports facilities in order to improve the performance and image of our athletes from Torrevieja, as well as working on the generation of social and physical environments that favour the integration of physical activity in life.
- Maintain and strengthen the sports management model recovered during the last four years, such as sports schools, the line of subsidies for sports clubs and entities, school sports or adapted sports.
- Install an electronic scoreboard in the 11 “Esteban Rosado” and “Gabriel Samper” soccer fields.
- Arrange for the start-up of a cafeteria with a terrace in the racket area, as well as the installation of shaded areas for it.
- Renovate the machines of the municipal gym, as well as reorganise the muscle-building area.
- Conditioning a new gymnasium specifically for federated athletes, so that they can complete part of their physical preparation training.
- Integrate new spaces within the sports city for beach sports such as beach soccer, beach volleyball or beach handball and beach tennis.
- Cover the outdoor basketball courts attached to the “Cecilio Gallego” pavilion.
- Adapt the “Antonio Soria” park to adapt it to the initiation of different sports such as cycling, skating, triathlon…
- Rehabilitate and improve the Agility area in the sports city.
- Promote the adaptation of areas for water sports on the beaches, thus improving the tourist offer of our city.
- Install structures for climbing in different city parks, thus offering new spaces for the practice of this sport modality.
- Stimulate activity in neighbourhoods by promoting a “Sports in your Neighbourhood” program using existing sports courts or adapting new areas, with the participation of different entities or associations in the area and clubs, expanding the possibilities of exercising near home.
- Promote the offer of federative training courses for coaches, referees, judges, etc. in collaboration with local clubs.
- Set up the school sports work group, involving schools, AMPAS, sports clubs, the area of Culture, Youth and companies related to leisure and sports.
- Recover the “Olympic Dream” program, supporting athletes with the possibility of attending the Olympic or Paralympic Games.
- Promote a sports event called “Torrevejense Sports Fair”, aimed at promoting the different sports modalities of the city, municipal sports schools, sports clubs, different entities, associations and local companies in the sports sector, together with local athletes as ambassadors of their sports.
- Promote the implementation of a sports medicine unit in the “project to create new facilities in the sports city” to improve the performance of athletes in terms of injury prevention, rehabilitation, rehabilitation, nutritional control and medical examinations through public-private collaboration agreements.
- Recover the Municipal Latin Sailing School.
Despite wanting to promote sports in the neighbourhoods, there is no mention of improving these facilities, many of which, according to reports from an opposition political party, are in a state of poor condition.
