Orihuela town hall has put out to tender a contract for the acquisition of materials for the maintenance of roads and public spaces, specifically on the Orihuela Costa, which will be valid for one year with the possibility of extending it for another year, for a value of 276,569 euro for materials such as paints, varnishes, asphalt, etc.
This tender, which the local administration justifies to satisfy the needs of the maintenance service for roads and public spaces, referring to carrying out the works that arise daily in the maintenance of roads, municipal buildings, schools, sports facilities and provisional facilities, is produced after the winner of the maintenance service, which costs 766,136 euro per year, required the council, not the contractor, to provide the necessary material to carry out the actions.
Thus, last February, the company Zaplana Caselles sent a letter to the council to record that since the contract for the supply of materials ended months ago, there are many problems to the point that the operators are unemployed for lack of material : “We cannot do any part of those that we have pending in the incident management program because we do not have the necessary material to carry them out,” they denounced.
Therefore, the object of the tender is the contracting of the supply of materials necessary for the maintenance services of roads and public spaces, establishing a supply rate, an availability and delivery commitment, and customer service assistance that is adapt to the needs.
Since the contract began, in February 2020, during the previous government, the problems have been constant, also in the delay of payments for the work carried out. Both at the end of 2021, again during the previous government of the PP, and 2022, during the current administration led by the PSOE, the workers called demonstrations, since due to the non-payments by the local administration, the company was not going to pay the December payroll or the bonus. On both occasions they were cancelled due to the payment in extremis.
