The Alicante Provincial Council has made a historic investment of 4.7 million euro to promote sustainable mobility, combat climate change and reduce air pollution in the province’s municipalities.
The president of the Diputación, Carlos Mazón, presided over the delivery of the cars, in which fifty mayors have participated in the symbolic collection of the keys to the vehicles that will be used to provide various municipal services.
Benijófar, Bigastro, Catral, Cox, Daya Nueva, Dolores, Formentera del Segura, Guardamar del Segura, Jacarilla, Los Montesinos, Rafal, Redován, Rojales, San Fulgencio, San Isidro and San Miguel de Salinas are amongst the municipalities to Benefit from the investment.
“In 2020, the institution created an extraordinary aid line of 2.7 million euro for the purchase of electric vehicles, from which 98 town councils have benefited ,” said Mazón, who added that with the aim of reaching to the consistories that were left out of the first call, « last year we approved a new investment of two million euro that has been recently resolved and that will allow the distribution of 73 more vehicles among 55 municipalities».
For this purpose, the institution will supply a total of 171 100% electric vehicles to 122 towns with less than 50,000 inhabitants.
All the towns in Alicante with less than 50,000 inhabitants that have requested a vehicle will have at least one subsidised one hundred percent by the provincial institution, some of them, in this case those with the largest population, will have two vehicles.
