The S-61 Dolphin submarine became the first floating museum of these characteristics in Spain.
A boat for peace, culture and union among cultures, is the expression of Spain’s marine roots.
The dolphin is the daphne class submarine, loaned by the Spanish navy to Torrevieja city council.
Torrevieja’s museums are inextricably associated with the sea and salt, primary resources that gave rise to what is now Torrevieja.
The submarine S-61 Delfín and the customs surveillance patrol Albatros III, are anchored in Torrevieja fishing pier.
In 2004, the S-61 became the first Spanish Navy ship to establish itself as a floating museum, following the city giving it the combat flag in 1971.
The customs surveillance patrol Albatros III belonged to the customs surveillance service, until March 23, 2006.
The S-61 Delfin submarine discharge, saw the Ministry of Defence give the last S-61 flag to Torrevieja during a moving ceremony celebrated by Cartagena’s Arsenal.
The Delfin submarine has received over 1,300,000 visits since it was inaugurated.
