There will be major changes in entry rules to Spain which will come into effect on 01 February 2022 after they are published in the BOE Official State Gazette.
From 1 February, requirements for entry to Spain at international airports and ports will be tightened and Spain’s official tourism website has reminded travellers that, “From 1 February 2022, in order to travel to Spain with a vaccination certificate, the certificate must have been issued by the competent authorities of the country of origin at least 14 days after the date of administration of the last dose of the full course of vaccination, as long as the final dose of that course of vaccination was no more than 270 days ago. From that date, the certificate must show the administration of a booster vaccination.”
The Covid vaccination certificate will have to contain, at least, the following information:
1.) Name and surname of the holder
2.) Dates of the vaccinations as well as the date of the last dose administered
3.) The type of vaccine administered
4.) The number of doses administered
5.) The country where the vaccine was administered
6.) The identification of the body which administered the vaccination
Furthermore, Spain will only accept vaccines authorised by the European Medicines Agency or by the World Health Organisation.
Children under the age of 12 years old do not need to show proof of being fully vaccinated on entry to Spain.
The Facebook page, Brits in Spain, which is managed by British Embassy staff in Madrid advises travellers to look at the UK Government website for travel advice before beginning their journey to Spain. They have also reminded travellers that the information published on the UK Government website is their understanding of the rules for travellers with a full “British Citizen” passport and that the entry rules are enforced by Spain.

The current travel information, 27 January 2022, as published on the UK Travel Advice pages of the UK Government are as follows:
All Travellers
– must fill in and sign an online Health Control Form prior to their travel to Spain
This includes travellers under the age of 12. It may be provided electronically prior to travel or in paper format prior to boarding.
The QR code (hardcopy or digital) issued when the online Health Control Form was completed must be shown on entry to Spain at airports and ports.
Additional documentation may be required depending on your reason for entering Spain.
If you are travelling for tourism, you must show proof of being fully vaccinated, i.e. both doses of a two-dose vaccine or one dose of a one-dose vaccine. You must be fully vaccinated within 14 days prior to arrival in Spain.
If you are an EU citizen or an accompanying family member of an EU citizen, a resident of Spain, or you have a valid exemption, you may present alternative documentation to the Covid vaccine certificate.
Fully Vaccinated Travellers
If travelling from the UK and fully vaccinated, you can enter Spain without needing to test or quarantine regardless of your reason for travel. Your vaccination status must meet the Spanish authorities’ validity period requirements:
• Until 1 February, at least 14 days prior to travel and entry to Spain must have passed since being fully vaccinated, i.e. both doses of a 2-dose vaccine or one dose of a single-dose vaccine.
• From 1 February, at least 14 days prior to travel and entry to Spain must have passed since being fully vaccinated, i.e. both doses of a 2-dose vaccine or one dose of a single-dose vaccine. The date(s) of vaccination must be specified and your final dose must have been administered within 270 days prior to travel to Spain. If you were fully vaccinated more than 270 days prior to travel to Spain, you must be able to show proof of having receiving a booster jab.
Non-Fully Vaccinated Travellers
If you are travelling for tourism, you must be fully vaccinated to enter Spain.
If you are travelling for non-tourism reasons, and your travel to Spain is deemed essential, there are exceptions.
Recovered from Covid in the last year?
If you are visiting Spain for tourism purposes, you should know that the UK proof of Covid-19 recovery record certifying that you have recovered from Covid-19 in the last 6 months will not be accepted by the Spanish authorities.
You may be able to enter Spain if you are travelling for non-tourism purposes, essential travel, and qualify for an exemption.
Young Children and Children Under the Age of 12
– must fill in and sign an online Health Control Form prior to travelling to Spain
Children under the age of 12 need not show proof of being fully vaccinated on entry to Spain, take diagnostic tests prior to arrival. They should meet the requirements published in the Spanish Ministry of Health ‘Travel and Covid-19’ page, even if they have visited a ‘risk country’ in the previous 14 days.
