DIEGO García, a local lawyer, who was the president of Elche during 2016-19, is the representative of a business group that is hoping to acquire a majority shareholding in Primera RFEF club CD Badajoz.
It will be García’s third spell at a football club, following positions at Elche and Cádiz.
CD Badajoz have said that its largest shareholder, Joaquín Parra, has given his approval to the approach stating that the package gives greater importance to the future of the club and its growth.
The takeover is subject to the mandatory authorisation of the Higher Sports Council, in order to approve the sale of shares.
As reported by the Badajoz club, and by the Parra family, the operation is being dealt with by a company who are experts in sports law, Diego García.
The management team of the purchasers will travel to the city where it will speak to the club and its staff, in order to start work, undertake the appropriate measures and provide the necessary resources that allow the continuity of the company.
Representatives of the buyer have contacted the general director of Badajoz: “An era full of hope opens for CD Badajoz in which the fans will be the benefactors”, said a statement.
The club was founded in the summer of 2012 under the name of Club Deportivo Badajoz 1905, following the liquidation of Club Deportivo Badajoz.
A new company acquired the rights to the logo and the brand of CD Badajoz in order to maintain its original name and identity, as well as trophies and other goods, prior to the liquidation of the SA Sports Club Deportivo Badajoz.
