LaMangaTorre CC – back in action in Torrevieja at the weekend – in two T20 fixtures against Madrid United, have been busy with the ‘Flicx wicket’ method of training.
“After three weeks without a game, we are looking forward to get back into action,” LaMangaTorre CC skipper Kieran Wood told me.
“The team’s training sessions have taken place in very humid conditions, in preparation for the two T20 fixtures against Madrid United at Torrevieja on July 13,” said Kevin.
LaMangaTorre CC switched to playing in Torrevieja, from their base at La Manga resort.
Saturday’s T20 games will take place at Torrevieja cricket pitch, based at the Polideportivo Sports City Council, Avenida Monge y Bielsa s/n, Torrevieja.
“We went to Torrevieja and got out the old and familiar ‘Flicx wicket’ – of which half the team had never experienced,” said Kieran.
The Flicx wicket is a portable cricket pitch, made of artificial surface, for indoor or outdoor use, that is rolled out.
“It was a good opportunity to learn the ‘Flicx wicket’, ahead of the weekend’s encounters against Madrid United,” said Kieran.
“For the regulars coming back, from Torrevieja CC, it reminded them of horrible memories being re-lived,” quipped Kieran.
“After three hours’ net session, playing on the wicket was a success, with good bowling and batting, all-round,” said Kieran.
Right-arm, Birmingham born teenage bowler Alfie Court, 16, who represented Spain u19s in a ODI qualifier in 2018, a key LaMangaTorre CC player, will be exclusively featured in the Costa Blanca and Costa Calida Leader during the summer.
