Beach Police in San Pedro Playas have once again taken to the coastal beat where the unit has increased its surveillance during the summer months.
The mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitation Martinez, and the councillor for Police, Ángela Gaona, met with some of the officers last week where, for the fourth consecutive year, agents will patrol the coastal perimeter of the municipality in their endeavours to protect the residents and the holidaymakers using the coastal areas.
Martinez explained that this police unit “is a pioneer, and unique in the Region of Murcia, as it attempts to bring the local police closer to the people, offering a more effective, direct and accessible service. In addition, she highlighted the impressive results that these officers have achieved since its implementation four years ago.
The unit was launched on Saturday, June 29 and will continue until September 9. It is composed of a corporal and seven local police officers, who will patrol the 13 kilometres of coast in San Pedro del Pinatar, as well as the different sea promenades of the town. The agents will use bicycles as their mode of transport, as well as an off-road vehicle and two quads, which will allow access to the different beach areas.
The unit will be active for ten hours a day, seven days a week, and will control both the beach areas and the promenades. During the summer of 2018, the Beach Unit assisted members of the public on 3,090 occasions. There were 119 sanctions related to local bylaws, 43 complaint dealt with for non-compliance of other Laws, 400 traffic infractions and 123 collaborations with Civil Protection.
