Over 40 people, representing 7 different nationalities, were present in Golf Sun last Monday when the Cabo Roig Business Association held it’s Annual General Meeting.
Outgoing President Ray Kearney gave a short report in which he confirmed that the Association was now fully legal after which the elections took place to form the new Executive Committee.
Brian Kiernan was elected as the Association President after which he took to the chair. Ciaran Twomey came in as Vice President with Karl Court and Niall Burns then elected as Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
Among the number of topics under discussion the most pressing was felt to be that of the illegal traders (manteros) who are operating in the area, seemingly with the approval of the Policia Local. Members reported police presence along the strip but absolutely no enforcement action, despite the increasing numbers and an escalation in the aggression of the manteros toward bar owners and the public.
It was recommended that a question on the matter should be tabled at the next Municipal Plenary by representatives of the Association.
Other matters discussed included the general cleanliness of the area, the overdue cutting of palm trees and the overnight presence of an ambulance.
Mr Kiernan took them all on board and said that any progress or news would be notified to Association members as it was made.
