Eduardo Dolón (PP), the new mayor of Torrevieja, has announced that despite being promised in the electoral manifesto the new government team will first have to assess the proposed sites, Cala del Moro – Mal Paso and Punta Margalla.
“We do not know the details of any agreement or the conditions that need to be met,” he told the local press on Wednesday.
Dolón was prudent, reminding the gathering of the controversy that has recently been generated about the proposal, and its rejection by many local residents. “But at the same time there is a lot of demand for bathers to be allowed to swim and relax on the beach with their animals.”
Just last February, in the case of Cala del Moro, there was a judicial resolution delivered by the Contentious Court in Elche, which gave permission for the beach to be used by animals, although it alluded to the fact that it was a provisional decision and that the final ruling must be reached through a popular consultation.
At the time, both the residents of Punta Margalla and Cala del Moro, who protested against the implementation of the court decision, (which only affected part of the rocky beaches) had the support of the PP, who were in opposition at the time.
It comes as no surprise, therefore, that the decision has now been delayed once again.
