With the whole of Mojácar gearing up for the fast approaching annual Moors and Christians Fiesta, the local Council’s Tourism Office are offering free visits around the town, which take in the most emblematic points of old Mojácar.
On Mondays to Fridays, at 11.30 a.m. anyone keen to see and learn more about more the origins of the town will be guided by a member of their staff to points of interest including; the Puerta de la Ciudad, Mirador del Castillo, Plaza Nueva and Plaza del Parterre as well as the Parish Church.
These tours have been running since May 14th and take in a visit to the exhibition “Encuentro Entre Culturas” at the Mirador del Castillo Centro de Arte. This colourful exhibition was put together last year especially for the 30th anniversary of Mojácar´s Moors and Christians Fiesta and includes a wide selection of photos, posters and costumes used by the different participating groups of kábilas and cuarteles.
There are 17 women’s, men’s and children’s costumes on display to see up close and admire, which reveal the gradual evolution that has taken place over the years. There are also over 100 high quality photos of the parades and its characters since it all began in 1988, including the winning images of the 1st and 2nd Moors and Christians Photography Competitions held in 2017 and 2018. A special section has also been made to exhibit the posters that have been designed every year to promote the Fiesta.
“Encuentro de Culturas” is in short, a walk down memory lane, showing the efforts and enthusiasm the entire town puts in to enjoying their most important annual event which, has achieved the great merit of being officially recognized as of Touristic Interest in Andalucía.
