Phoenix Of Spain (16-1) noted in www.fromthehorsesmouth.tips was successful in winning thru Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh on Saturday.
The race headliners Too Darn Hot and Magna Grecia were both overshadowed by Phoenix Of Spain, the Charlie Hills trained colt having finished second to both of the market principals on his last two runs of 2018.
“We had some fantastic form from last year,” said Hills.
Phoenix of Spain’s Classic win came on the back of not having run this season – missing the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket after scoping dirty.
Too Darn Hot, ridden by Frankie Dettori, challenged Phoenix Of Spain, to no avail, with winning jockey Jamie Spencer going on to win by three lengths. Decrypt finished third ahead of Skardu.
“Phoenix of Spain has a great temperament. It was a really good team effort”, said Hills.
“To win a Classic is fantastic – for the owners – and all involved,” said Hills.

“Phoenix Of Spain, trained by Charlie Hills and ridden by Jamie Spencer, a Group 3 winner, noted at Doncaster in Group 1 race in October, when beaten by Magna Grecia.”
