Two young sportsmen were welcomed to the Orihuela Sala del Oriol last week by the mayor Emilio Bascuñana, where they received institutional recognition by signing the Orihuela Book of Honour, José David Menargues Manzanares and Jesús Teruel Oltra.
José David, a member of the Under-17 Spanish National Football Team is from the hamlet of Desamparados. He has recently taken part in the European U-17 championship from which the team achieved qualification for the next World Cup to be played in Brazil.
He plays right and central side defence and was with CD Beniel from prebenjamín until alevín. He then went to Real Murcia and currently plays for Valencia Club de Fútbol.
Jesús Teruel, meanwhile, is a national shooting champion. He has won the Sports Weapons Federation Cup, the Autonomic Championship and the Presidential Cup of the Valencian Federation, as well as the individual category of the Provincial Olympic Shooting Championship of Alicante.
The mayor conveyed his congratulations to both athletes for their achievements “and for promoting the name of Orihuela in each their sporting successes.”
