We had our monthly Championship last Saturday at La Serena again with a fantastic field of 85 players. It almost goes without saying but the competition committee have the events running like clockwork.
Congratulations to Camillus and his team Philip Mountford and Terry Fitzgerald for all their fine efforts. To the staff in the pro-shop, Paul, Karolina and Jose, thank you for your attention to detail and for preparing the cards and collating the results and also putting the banner out on such a windy day. Gloria and all the kitchen staff well done as always we were treated to some lovely tapas, thank you.
To Wayne and his team, the course was presented as usual to a very high standard, well done. Our club captain James Hayes was on hand to present the prizes. He congratulated all those who won prizes and made two comments, one to all those who stayed for the presentation and then he also suggested that we should wear our club polo on the day of the Championship games. Let’s see how many wear their polo shirts in April.
Results of the day, the NTP’s were won, however, somebody removed the result sheets from table and I cannot recall who the winners were. Cat. III Yvette McGeehan 35, Tony Stafford 33 and Mark Knight 33. Cat II Ian Sadler 37, Ian McCormack 34 and Kevin McBride 33. Cat I. Terry Fitzgerald 33, Eddie Wall 33 and Alan Walker 31.
The gross was won by John O’Brien with 26. Second overall with 37 Kenny McGeehan and the winner with 39 points Tony Davis. Thank you one and all who remained for the presentation and to honour our winners on the day.
Could we be aware of a number of issues that we might address in order to improve the experience for all in a tournament, firstly the issue of slow play. Can players please keep up with the group in front of them.
Do not wait until it is your turn to play to start your routine, putting on or taking off your glove, marking and cleaning your ball, selecting your club, measuring your distance for your shot etc. all of these can be done in advance and this will help the smooth flow of the game. We had four more players disqualified on the day,it is your responsibility to have your card signed and return it to the golf shop.
We have a waiting list in operation at the moment for membership at La Serena, however membership of The Celts is always available.
