That little rascal, the fictional ‘Albert’, came up trumps again in Monday’s ‘counter game’. Along with Marleen Billen, Paul Brown and Hendrick Oldenziel a score of 92 points was enough to take 1st place.
This time round we had the benefit of knowing how many scores out of the four were to count before each hole was played. Worthy of a mention were Hendrick’s back to back birdies.
Wednesday saw us compete in this season’s 2nd ‘major’ club competition in the form of a ‘2 ball better ball’. Being a special occasion, there were welcome drinks at the half way stage and members were encouraged to bring food and snacks for a buffet afterwards. Someone should probably point out to Ellen Drakesmith that pork pies need to be defrosted and sausage rolls cooked!
Despite a three shot reduction in her handicap over the past few weeks Nora Betts once again found herself on the winner’s rostrum. Together with Maria Oldenziel, our ‘Spice Girls’ took the title with 45 points. So that will be ‘Dutch Spice’, ‘Irish Spice’ and presenting the trophy ‘Old Spice’! Runners up with 44 points were Heinz Lei and Mike Frankish (who scored 41 of them!) They just managed to edge out Pete Dunn and Bernie Stones on countback. Three ‘2’s today, Ellen Drakesmith, Nigel Price and Terry Cullen.
On Friday we played a ‘Joker Stableford’ where two nominated holes were worth double points. Tom Hardie took gold with 44 points and was closely followed by Joyce McClusky, who just missed out with 43. Mike Mahony came in third with 41 points.
Y por ultimo, in the words of Raymond Floyd, ‘They call it golf because all the other four letter words were taken’!
Pues hasta la semana que viene,
Peter Reffell
