The box office is open for STUDIO32 Musical Theatre Company’s latest spectacular,
the wonderful Cole Porter classic Anything Goes. The show is an hilarious farce, with
great songs and a script that will have you laughing in your seats, up the aisles, and
all the way home.
Over the years the show has won many awards, including Tony awards for Best Musical Revival for both the 1987 and 2011 Broadway productions.
Set in the 1930s the story concerns madcap antics aboard an ocean liner, the S.S.
American, bound from New York to London. Reno Sweeney, a nightclub singer turned
evangelist, gets embroiled in the love affair between an old-time friend, Billy Crocker,
and debutante Hope Harcourt.
Hope just happens to be on the liner as she is engaged
to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh and planning to marry onboard. But will Reno save the day
and enable Billy and Hope to find true love together?
Lynn Preston (pictured) plays the lead role of Reno Sweeney, a brash American
cabaret artist. Lynn has been with STUDIO32 for nearly two years now, and recently
played the role of Adderperle in the Motown musical The Wiz.
The role is quite
demanding, with singing, dancing and acting required throughout the show. This
includes several well-known numbers such as “I Get A Kick Out Of You” and the title
song “Anything Goes”. It was famously played by Elaine Paige in the 1989 London
production for which she was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award as Best
Actress In A Musical.
STUDIO32 are proud and delighted to once again be supporting charities and good
causes in the area, including the San Fulgencio Alzheimer’s Society and the local
music school. The show goes on from Wednesday May 29th to Saturday June 1st at
the Cardenal Belluga Theatre in San Fulgencio, all performances start at 7.30pm with
doors open 7pm.
