LaMangaTorreCC’s Connor Wood’s has made a name for himself within four years of taking up cricket – having represented Spain in World Cup qualifying matches.
“I was introduced to cricket in 2015 and took a liking to the sport, joining the Torrevieja CC squad, aged 15,” said Connor.
Following lengthy training sessions Connor quickly learned the techniques of batting – and the basics of playing cricket.
“It was bowling that I quickly took a liking to,” said Connor.
After spending many hours on the practise field Connor managed to iron out his bowling action to a smooth pace; and today he is still learning new skills to throw into the bowling attack at LaMangaTorre CC.
During his time at Torrevieja CC, Connor went on to become one of the main bowlers in 2016, and also being one of the leading wicket takers in 2017.
Connor, who plays for Alfas C.C. in friendly matches throughout the season, for pre-season warm-ups, made a big impact in 2018, taking a plethora of wickets, coming third place in the Annual SuperStars Competition.
“With constant training in the nets I feel my batting ability has been picking up dramatically – and my aim is to push my way up the batting order in the near future,” said Connor.
Internationally Connor has made appearances for the Spanish Academy U17 and Spanish Academy U19; and Spanish Select U25.
“I am only at a young age. There is a lot to look forward to in the coming years,” said Connor, 19, who represented Spain in the U19 World Cup Qualifiers in 2018.
