MONTE started well with VAZ bringing out a good save from MONFORTE’S goalkeeper, however CARLOS made an excellent save after the ball rebounded of the crossbar onto the foot of a MONFORTE player. After 20 minutes MONFORTE started to pressurise the MONTE defence and on the half hour missed a sitter of a clear open goal from 2 yards.
On 36 minutes MONTE missed 3 chances to clear the area and saw the ball fired in from close range giving CARLOS no chance. Monte it must be said were playing better than of late but went in at half time a goal down.
MONTE started the second half with ALEXIS and CHRISTOPHER replacing LIAM and DARIO and took control of the game but the final pass let them down. The danger as MONTE pressed forward was that we would get caught on the break.
On 58 minutes we gave the ball away in mid-field and MONFORTE broke down the left wing to make it 2-0. GERMAN and ALFREDO then came on for DIMITRY and OMAR as MONTE went all out to salvage the match. From a MACCAN cross VAZ fired just past the post. With 70 minutes on the clock sloppy defence left a MONFORTE forward alone in the box, 3-0 game all but over.
MONTE however never give in and VAZ collected a through ball rounded the goalkeeper to make it 3-1, followed by a good chance missed by DIEGO, VAZ stretching for a cross just puts the ball over the bar. With just 2 minutes to go CHRISTOPHER is brought down just outside the box, gets up and pushes the offender in the chest and gets sent off.
MORANTE was the M.O.T.M. although goalie Carlos, all rounder Maccan, and Vaz at near his best,could easily have won the award. And in view of the game being played on a Thursday morning a crowd 140 was a fair turn out.
