Creepy Monday and not only the start of Halloween week but also the first round of our spine chilling pairs knockout match play competition. Four matches played today with those enjoying a bye joining us on Wednesday in the quarter final round.
Safely through were Geoff Biggerstaff and Ron Phipps winning 3 & 2 and causing John Dobson and Rod Doel real ‘Misery’. Nigel (Vincent) Price and Pete (Cushing) Dunn finished their encounter 2 up after 18 holes. Also into the quarters were Friedel Knebel (same initials as Freddy Krueger!) and Alan (Lurch) McClusky who won their match 4 & 3 and will lock horns in the next round against myself and Lindsay Forbes after our 4 & 2 victory.
Onto Wednesday, and having ‘exorcised’ my demons (the shanks) Lindsay Forbes and myself ‘crypt’ through to Friday (not the 13th) with a 3 & 1 win. It was a case of ‘fangs for the memory’ after Ron Phipps and Geoff Biggerstaff came under the spell of Vincent and Cushing who had a ‘Shining’ performance on the last green.
Bryan Neal and Liz Robertson secured their ‘stake’ after a ‘Thriller’ of a 3 & 1 win. Yvonne Phipps and Donald Pleasance (oops Dave Pulling) also worked their magic to secure a 3 & 2 win.
Those that had already succumbed to the ‘Texas Chainsaw’ played a stableford which was won by ‘Here’s Johnny’ Collins (or should that be can’t count Dracula) with a spooky 40 points.
Friday and semi-final day (well one of them anyway). Into the final and just edging past Nigel and Pete with a 3 & 1 win were myself and Lindsay in a closely fought contest. The other semi has been postponed until next Friday, so more to follow in next week’s report. Nail biting drama!
The rest of our ‘covern’ played a 2 ball better ball with Geoff Biggerstaff (coming in on 13 holes) together with John Dobson taking 1st place with 43 points.
Pues, hasta la semana que viene
