The Maritime Service of the Civil Guard pulled the dead body of a man from the sea in Cala Mosca on the Orihuela Costa on Monday evening after it had been spotted by a passer-by.
It was first seen at about 2 in the afternoon when Local Police and Civil Guard moved into the area. Initially, a unit of the Fire and Rescue Service was also mobilised.
The area where the body was found is at the bottom of a very steep cliff, It was said, by a spokesman, to be trapped in the sea between the rocks, as a result of which Civil Guard thn called in the Special Group of Subacute Activities (GEAS).
The body was eventually rescued by a patrol boat from the Maritime Service and the involvement of the members of the GEAS was not necessary.
The body is said to be that of a middle-aged man, who was dressed only in pants and was naked from the waste up. It was taken to the marina at Cabo Roig before being removed for forensic examination.
