After attending this year’s FITUR Fair in Madrid, Mojácar’s tourism representatives have been evaluating their participation at what is undoubtedly their most important global tourism event. With a professional approach, both the Mojácar’s Councillor for Tourism, Emmanuel Agüero, along with the department staff, held a number of meetings in addition to dealing with the many members of the public that attended the fair this year.
The meetings between British tour operators and Emmanuel confirmed the growth in the local market, with the need to include and promote additional hotels in the town, providing extra accommodation that will guarantee thousands of tourists from May to October. In addition, new markets in Ireland and Scotland have opened up, with increased flights to the province and,
agreements have been made that will promote Mojácar through targeted promotional campaigns with various operators and online agents as well as tapping into the media such as the press, television and social networks for specific areas of the market.
251,000 people attended this important tourist event, with compliments on both the standard of the exhibitors and management from attendees, registering a positive outcome from this FITUR show and strong predictions for a growth in tourist numbers this coming season for the whole region.
Mojácar’s Tourism staff took up their position on the Almería Stand along with the counterparts from the Levante Almeriense and, during the event they dealt with many people from Madrid. A number of those were particularly keen to know more about what Mojácar had on offer this year, especially the dates of the big events such as; the Moors and Christians Fiesta, the Candlelit Night, the Floral Indalos and, the Romantic Night which has recently been added to the calendars of all the Most Beautiful Towns and Villages in Spain, of which the town is a member.
As well as those visitors looking for the usual ‘sun, sand and sea’, many potential tourists to Mojácar attracted by the great weather and standard of hotels in every category, were also on the lookout for leisure, sports and cultural opportunities, as well as family focused holidays. Mojácar is also credited with being the first tourist destination in Andalucía to obtain the Seal of Quality Family Tourism endorsed by the Federación Nacional de Familias Numerosas, which has attracted added interest through its guarantee as being an ideal holiday destination for families.
Throughout the exhibition, the tourism team along with the Councillor for Tourism focused every effort on their promotional work and business meetings whilst attending to all the public queries on their stand as this year, the Golden Indalo awards will be instead handed over later this year in Mojácar.
For 25 years, these presentations took place at the FITUR Fair with the intention of generating interest in the town but, as there are now a multitude of ways of dispersing information, the presentation of the emblematic Indalos in Mojácar to the recipients means that the townspeople will be more able to attend the event and take part in a special time.
As soon as he had concluded his last meeting in Madrid, Councillor Emmanuel Agüero flew straight off to Belgium to attend another important event, the Vellofolie Fair, which is presenting the cycle race “Gran Fondo Costa de Almeria” that will have its starting point in Mojácar.
