Following on from previous successful years, Mojácar Council has once again started its Handicrafts course for local seniors, organized as part of its Adult Education programme. Ana García, Head of the Education Department, was there to see both past and newly enrolled students get together to start their new projects in the first lesson.
The classes, which are free of charge, aim to develop activities that encourage seniors to spend their time actively and positively, by learning about new artistic techniques and craft methods, whilst exercising the mind, all in social atmosphere.
A variety of materials are used, from wool, to clay, plastics, candles and recycled bits and pieces, all taking on new life in the hands of the group led by their teacher, Angelita Torregrosa. The course has got off to a busy start by making clay mosaics and will continue, with Christmas celebrations in mind, with seasonal ornaments and decorations.
The Craft Workshops take place every Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. during the school term until June and are held in the Mojácar’s Centro de Usos Múltiples near the Fuente. The course is open to all and you may join at any time, as the activities are personalized with each student having their own project and pace of work. However, at the moment, although there is still room, most places have been snapped up.
