Over the coming weekend, Mojácar will hold the fiesta in honour of its Patron Saint, the Virgen del Rosario.
The events begin on Friday October 6 (which is a local holiday), with the monologue “Mi Vida No Es Una Lata”. Funded by the Consorcio de Residuos Sólidos, in conjunction with Mojácar Council’s Fiesta Department, it is only suitable for over 14’s and entry, at the Town’s Centro de Usos Múltiples near the Fuente is free. Starting at 9.30p.m., the monologue has a reflective, yet fun scientific theme, based on recycling and includes some interesting live visual experiments.
On Saturday, October 7, the Holy Mass in honour of the Patron will be held at 12 noon in Mojácar Pueblo’s Santa María Church, during which there will be performances by the soprano Svetlana Alina Polushina, along with the organist, Antonio Cañete Serrano. This will be followed by a procession with the image of the Virgen del Rosario being carried along the streets, accompanied by officials, townspeople and the Town Band.
Then, it is the children’s turn to be entertained with a show to transport them into a fantasy world full of games, “Aventuras de Fin de Semana”. It starts at 6 p.m. and admission is free, at the Centro de Usos Múltiples.Top of Form
One event that everyone looks forward to during this fiesta, is the traditional horseback ribbon runs, with mixed couples competing. Everyone is invited to come along and join in this fun event that has been part of Mojaquera tradition for hundreds of years. The ribbons will be collected at the Fuente at 5 p.m. on the Sunday followed by the jovial horseback runs at 5.30 p.m. with musical entertainment by the Town Band, thus bringing Mojácar’s Patron Saint festivities to a close for yet another year.
