Formentera 1 v. Daya Nueva 2
Daya looked to put Tuesday’s nightmare result behind them as they made a bright start to this game. In the second minute Daya made a quick break down the left, the ball found its way to Jonhy whose shot had just enough pace on it to beat the keeper.
This goal gave the visitors real belief and they pushed forward in numbers and you sensed another goal would not be long in coming. On sixteen minutes a great pass found Braulio out wide on the right, his ferocious shot rattled the crossbar with the keeper well beaten.
Formentera did have a few counter attacks but the visitors defence was well up to the task. From a corner on twenty seven minutes Daya conceded a penalty that was blasted home to level the score at 1-1. This goal certainly lifted the home side but Daya were still the team carrying the greater goal threat. Another great chance came Daya’s way just before half time but with the ball about to be tapped home offside was given !! So 1-1 at the break with Daya having the better of a very entertaining half. The second half started well for Daya with a fierce shot from Braulio flashing just wide.
On fifty five minutes Braulio was guilty of probably what will be the miss of the season when blasting over from a few feet out. The visitors were beginning to give away too many free kicks and sooner or later one could prove very costly. On sixty three minutes following great work down the right Fernando put in a beautiful cross that Josue buried to put Daya 2-1 up. Just minutes later it should have been three but the goal bound shot was saved by the goal keeper’s face although he knew nothing about it. The home side mounted a couple of good attacks that gave the visitors defence something to think about.
Daya hit back immediately and a good free kick just missed the target. On seventy eight minutes, for the second game running, Daya were down to ten men, so the last twelve minutes were going to be difficult for Daya to hold on. Coach, Juan Pedro, brought on Alex and Fernando to shore up the defence and protect the slender lead. In the final minutes it was ten men each as Formentera had a man dismissed. An incredible save from the home side’s keeper in the fifth minute of added time denied the visitors the third goal they deserved.
So a good 2-1 win for Daya today. It goes a long way to erase last Tuesday’s shocking performance. Coach, Juan Pedro, must have been well pleased with his team’s win and the manner in which it was achieved. What is concerning though is the number of red and yellow cards so far issued. If this continues I may have to get my boots out !
