There may be further travel misery as French unions are calling for more strikes and protests across France for two days next week.
At least 200 flights had to be cancelled between Monday and Wednesday this weeks due to industrial action by French air traffic controllers who joined hip with other unions in order to protest wages against wages and working conditions in France.
Both Ryanair, who had to cancel some 110 flights, and the aviation industry body, Airlines for Europe (A4E) complained about the disruption and called on the European Commission and French government to get involved.
However, unions are calling for further strikes on 21 and 23 September which has prompted the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to warn of possible delays and disruption on those days.
In an updated travel advisory, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said: “On 21 and 23 September French unions have called for protests and strike action across France. This could cause disruption and delays to transport services including rail networks and some maritime ports. You should allow extra time for your journey and check your chosen operator’s website before you set off.”
