A 51 year old policeman from Valencia’s Homicide group has died after being stabbed whilst attempting to detain a man during the early part of Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred in C/Sueca de València.
The police were attempting to arrest the alleged perpetrator of the death of a man whose body was discovered on Monday night in an abandoned suitcase at the junction of Avda’s Peris and Valero with C/Cabo Jubi.
The officers entered a building and confronted the man who lunged at the officer stabbing him in the chest. His companion immediately took out his firearm and shot dead the accused. The stabbed officer suffered serious injuries as a result of the attack and died shortly thereafter.
Although paramedics were quickly on the scene there was no response to their attempts to revive the injured officer.
The delegate of the Valencian Government, Juan Carlos Moragues, together with the subdelegate, Jose Vicente Herrera both attended the scene.
Police do not believe the attack was connected to terrorism, a spokesman said.
The Police and the Civil Guard have expressed their condolences for the death of the agent on social media.
