We celebrated our August Open Day last Saturday at La Serena. The conditions as is the norm for this time of the year were extremely hot for golf with glorious sunshine and very high humidity. As always, the clubhouse staff of Jean and Paul looked after all our needs and we were set for a great day of golf with a shot gun start at 9am. A very special mention must go to Philip for all is hard work and to Alisdair for his assistance of the days event.
In contrast to last months’ competition we had little or no delays on the course and Jean in the shop generated the results for us within 10 minutes. Excellent work all round.
Our captain Alisdair McLean was at hand to present our monthly prizes and the lucky winners were as follows; in our Crystal events, we had week one winner, Kenny McGeehan 41, Susan Owens 39 and our Captain Alisdair McLean on 38. Week 2 Peter Easby 41, David Mullet 40 and William Thomson 40.
Down to the results on the day; NTP’s were won by Darren Holden, Dave Cosson, Frank Wigley and Kenny dead eye dick scooped three on holes 9,10 and 15.. Our visitors prize was won by Alan Ewing with the best score of the day 32. Category III, Kevin McBride 39, Thomas Farrell 39 and David Locke 38. Category II, David Cosson 40, Ian Sadler 37 and George Thomas 35. Category I, Eddie Wall 35, Denis McCormack 31 and Gary Hall 30. Second over-all went to Joseph Adam with 41 points and the overall winner on the day with 41 points Kenny McGeehan. Congratulations to all the winners and to those who participated. It was great to see so many members present for the prize giving.
We are playing a round of The International League in El Saler which has staged the Spanish Open. It is ranked in the top 10 courses of Europe. We have through the federation organised a bus to bring us to El Saler can you please contact me or your captain if you intend to use this free mode of transport.
