Benalmádena, 17th August 2017
For the first time, Marbella 4 Days Walking get together with the Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice to help raising funds during the days of the walk, from the 11th to the 14th October this year.
On Thursday, October 12th, more than 2,000 walkers from 20 nationalities will leave the Marina of Marbella to walk a route of 20 – 30 kilometers, being Sunday 15th October the shortest route (10 kilometers) for children up to 16 years.
On the terraces of the marina all routes will be started and end every day walkers, assistants and curious people will gather up in a pleasant festive atmosphere with live music. In the afternoon, walkers and visitors will enjoy music and dance performances in the streets of the old town.
So far 1,500 people from many different countries are already enrolled, since they have to book their flights and accommodation in advance. Most of them will participate in the 4 days, although there is also the possibility of registering on single days.
“We have made small changes in the routes. We decided to change the route from Friday to Saturday for the feedback received in previous editions. Hikers say that the Saturday and Sunday routes are too hard to walk in correlative days, “says Hans Wohl, organizer of the event. As a novelty a special route of 10 kilometers will be included on Sunday, October 15th so that the children can participate with their parents or sport clubs.
The start will be at 11.30h and 12.00h to concentrate around the front gate at the same time. Part of the Marbella promenade will be transformed into Via Gladiolo, which is the Roman symbol of victory. This is why gladiolis are delivered at the end of the walk.
The Department of Tourism of the City of Marbella is managing all permits, as well as security, cleaning and festivities. Marketing and publicity is done both outside and within Spain through social media, advertising campaigns, tour operators and hiking associations, as well as through the great impact of Cudeca.
Last month the Vierdaagse (4DaysCaminando) of Nijmegen was celebrated in Holland, and the 45,000 walkers received a brochure with information on Marbella 4Days Walking. A third of the enrollees always return after having participated for the first time, which demonstrates the success of the call for this event. Also, they drag many of their friends and family to do a route or to go on holidays in Marbella.
And this is why the Dutch organization Marbella4DaysWalking has signed a collaboration agreement with Cudeca for collaboration in this coming edition in Marbella.
All participants will be able to make a donation at their discretion when registering both to Cudeca and Triple A, the two local non-profit organizations chosen by M4DW; and 20% of the income collected through the online registration will be donated to both organizations. A stand with information and volunteers from Cudeca will be available for all the walkers during the designated days to inform the community.
“We believe it is important to contribute to improving the quality of life on the Costa del Sol,” says Hans Wohl, President of M4DW. “We know that every year there are participants who have been cured of cancer and have decided to celebrate it with a hiking holiday in Marbella. Apart from this, we know about Cudeca’s magnificent work in supporting both patients and their families. We are happy to know that we have them with us”, he continues.
Also on 14 October Cudeca is celebrating World Hospice Palliatice Care Day, joining the celebration with a 24hour concert spanning the globe with “Voices for Hospices” to be held in Málaga.
Cudeca is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide specialized care to patients with cancer and other advanced illnesses, and to offer support to their families free of charge.
