For the very first time, British Airways, the UK’s National Airline, has introduced direct flights from Heathrow to San Javier Airport, the first of which will launch on 28 March next year.
The airline, which has the largest fleet and more international connections than any other, will make two weekly flights between Murcia and Heathrow airport in London, Europe’s busiest airport, twice weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Both the company and the destination are new ventures for the Murcian terminal, which has for many years maintained links with London’s other three airports at Gatwick, Luton and Stansted through the low cost carriers. However, it has never been connected to the West London giant.
British Airways (BA) flights departing from San Javier will arrive at Heathrow’s terminal 5, one of the most modern in the world, and which was extended just two years ago.
This new offer of flights, which are already available on the BA website, will mean even more competition for the low cost carriers that already dominate the San Javier airport
Currently British tourists account for 80% of the total passengers that travel through the Mar Menor, an increase of 10% on 2015, and it is notable that the La Manga Club resort has already started to promote the flights through its Internet portal.
The new connection joins those that San Javier currently has with other British and Irish airports at Luton, Stansted, Dublin, Birmingham, Manchester and East Midlands.
