Mazarron’s mini revival came to an abrupt end when they were outplayed and outclassed by high flying SFC Minerva.
The home team were quick out of the blocks and Pablo in the Mazarron goal had to be at his best but could do nothing about Minerva taking the lead after just seven minutes through Jose Alberto. Mazarron just could not get into the game and, apart from the odd corner and a shot which was easily saved they did not really trouble the Minerva defence in a disappointing first half performance.
Too many passes went astray and the tempers of the visiting team were not helped by the referee who seemed to penalise Mazarron at every opportunity. It all became too much for coach Cobo and he was sent from the dug out after 30 minutes.
Minerva continued to press forward as the game continued at a fast pace but with little skill being shown by either team. Both teams had a couple of long range efforts but the first half ended with no addition to the score.
If Mazarron supporters were hoping for a change in fortunes after the interval they were to be disappointed as Minerva continued to outrun and outplay the visitors. Pablo had to come out of his goal to block an early attack but Minerva went further ahead after 58 minutes when Joel beat Pablo with a well placed shot to make it 2-0.
Mazarron did manage a couple of shots at goal but nothing really to test the MInerva keeper and the home team made the game safe after 67 minutes when a corner to the far post was headed home by Francisco Ramon.
Things got worse for Mazarron five minutes later when Raso was harshly sent off for handling the ball in the penalty area. Pablo made a good save from Alfonso’s penalty kick which no doubt went a long way to securing his Man of the Match award from the travelling supporters.
