Nearly three hundred loyal supporters poured into The Municipal Stadium to watch CD Montesinos host CF Racing Playas de Orihuela A in the Segunda Regional Grupo 16 to witness a thrilling five goal encounter – that saw Monte come back from 0-2 down to win 3-2.
The Alicante based club – with a following of over 400 registered fans – see new coach Carlos Perez as the man to change round their fortunes.
It was Carlos’s first league game in charge in the wake of the sacking of Camacho – just two games into the 2016-17 season – after suffering heavy defeats.
New signing, striker Aureu, who shone in the 6-1 friendly win against Todo Deportivo last week, was again amongst the goals.
League leaders RC took the lead in the opening minutes of the game, and added a second to lead 0-2 at the interval.
“The manager told us at half time ‘this is our final’ – we can win the game”, frontman Carlos told me after the game.
Aureu reduced the deficit, when slotting the ball into the corner of the RC net, and Carlos netted the equaliser as Monte pursued a comeback.
With RC under pressure from a revitalized Monte, Aureu slipped the ball through the visitors defence and Carlos netted what turned out to be the winning goal to run out 3-2 victors.
“It was amazing to see so many Montesinos fans cheering us on – that definitely helped”, said Carlos.
“It was brilliant to come back from 0-2 down, to win 3-2. The manager instilled faith into the players in the dressing room at half time.
“After manager Carlos Perez’s message we believed we could win the game,” said Carlos.
Montesinos travel away to FB Redovan ‘A’ on October 23 hoping to build on their return of form after early season mishaps.
Asked if CD Montesinos can gain promotion this season, Carlos said: “Do I think we can reach promotion? Maybe – we will see.”
Brazilian striker Vazquino, sidelined with injury since his return to Montesinos after a spell at Sporting Saladar, is set to return to action next weekend.
“I look forward to wearing the CD Montesinos shirt once again. I am ready for selection after my injury period that saw me miss the first three games of the season,” Vazquino told me.
