During the next month or so teams from Hidraqua will be busy across the region cleaning and unblocking over 3000 roadside stormwater ditches and drains in anticipation of the heavy Autumn rains.
Orihuela’s Councillor for the Environment, Miguel Angel Fernandez (PP), said that the procedure is carried out every two years and will involve 3,000 drains – 749 units in the city, 770 in the districts and 1,411 on the Orihuela Costa.
He hopes that the work will go some way to ensuring that the drainage systems are able to handle the heavy rainfall that we will inevitably see at the end of the summer.
Hidraqua say that, in parallel to this work they are also carrying out maintenance tasks on the two tanks –storm reservoirs located in the Industrial area Puente Alto and La Zenia, as well as local pumping stations and storm water collectors.
